While Marie has been composing liturgical music for over twenty years, it is only in recent years that her music has become more prominent in the public domain.  She has composed a number of Mass settings including  Mass of Faith, Mass of Hospitality and Mass for the Spread of the Gospel.  She is currently re-editing these to bring them into line with the texts of the new Roman Missal.

Her most recent Mass setting is that of Mass of Providence, which was composed on the occasion of the canonisation of St. Jeanne Jugan (Foundress of the Little Sisters of the Poor.) This Mass will be televised on RTE from the Sacred Heart Residence, Sybil Hill, Raheny, on Sunday, 8th January 2012.

A new Irish Mass Aifreann Mhuire an Chnoic - Canaigí Amhrán Nua don Tiarna composed by Marie will also be televised on St. Patrick's Day, 17th March 2012, from the Basilica in Knock.

Marie has composed music for various liturgical events and for  different religious congregations. These works include You Will Be My Witnesses, composed for the Year of Vocation in 2006, and Walking the Way, composed in 2010 on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of CORI.  Further information on these compositions and others is found on her website.  Marie’s music is sung in many parts of the world  and some of it has been translated into a number of different languages.

faithlight1As a Sister of the Holy Faith, Marie values the Charism of Faith of her Congregation. It is her desire and wish that her music will be an instrument  of evangelization and faith nourishment for those who hear and sing it.

"It is a glorious thing to devote our time, talents and energies,
to the preservation of the faith."
(Margaret Aylward - 1867)

On Sunday afternoon, 13 November 2011, over 300 relatives, friends, past-pupils and sisters came to Holy Faith Convent, Glasnevin, for the annual Mass for deceased sisters, associates and prayer associates.  This has been a yearly event since the early eighties. Those attending travelled from far and near - some coming for many years to honour the life of a daughter, sister, cousin, grand-aunt or former teacher; other families were here for the first time, having buried their loved one within the past year.

It was a lovely sunny Autumn day and many arrived early to visit the graves of their loved ones and by Mass time the graveyard was adorned with flowers and plants. The Healy family from Grangemockler, Co. Tipperary have been coming for many years now to remember Srs. M. Magdalen and Marie Therese, likewise Sr. M. Sabina's family in the photo above.

novmass4aThe Mass was celebrated by Fr. Harry Gaynor, a long-time friend of Holy Faith, assisted by Fr. Paddy O'Herlihy, a Columban father and brother of our deceased sisters Nora and Evangelista and Fr. Bernard Meade, a Vincentian, whose aunt was Sr. M. Hilarion. Both Fr. Meade and his sister, Marie, have been coming to the Mass since the custom started.  Sr. Vivienne Keely, our new general leader, in her welcome address remarked that "we remember and thank our deceased sisters for helping us to refine our identity for the present and giving us hope and courage for the future".

In his homily Fr. Harry focused on the unique giftedness that each deceased sister brought to her Holy Faith ministry and quoted from Jean Vanier: "Talents are given to individuals but they become gifts when used in love for others".   As usual, the evening ended with a reception in St. Mary's Hall.  This has become a very special time as families and friends reconnect and so the re-union spirit was very vibrant.

May all our loved ones rest in the peace of the Trinity.
Though we cannot see you with outward eyes,
We know our soul's gaze is upon your face.”
On the death of the Beloved
– John O’Donohue (1954-2008)
